Writing Interns
Due to changes in the CEC's staffing and changes to the program, we are not currently accepting applications for Writing Interns. Applications for 2019-2020 interns will be accepted beginning in July of 2019. Interns receive course credit through the University Writing Program, and, under the guidance of CEC staff, will be expected to work independently to interview and write features about CSTAC members and EHSC researchers as well as attending and documenting EHSC events and meetings.

2016-2017 Writing Interns
Carolyn Day
Carolyn Day graduated from UC Davis in 2017 with a B.S. in Wildlife and Conservation Biology and minors in both English and Professional Writing. Carolyn currently interns at Wildlife Care Association where she assists in the rehabilitation of orphaned or injured wildlife. She hopes to continue working with wildlife directly while also acting as an advocate for wildlife and the environment by speaking with and writing for the general public on the topics pertaining to wildlife, conservation, and the environment as a whole. Carolyn was an intern for the EHSC for the 2016-2017 school year, during which time she was responsible for writing profiles on the member of the EHSC's Community Stakeholders Advisory Committee (CSTAC) and their collaboration with UC Davis scientists.
Benjamin Sipes
Benjamin Sipes graduated from UC Davis in 2017 with a B.S. in Animal Biology and two minors: one in Professional Writing and the other in Sociology. He also worked on a project studying affiliative behavior of titi monkeys at the California National Primate Research Center. His interests lie at the intersection of writing and science to make scientific information both accessible and engaging to a larger audience. He interned with the EHSC in the Winter and Spring quarters of 2017 writing profiles of UC Davis scientists and their involvement in community science. Since graduating from Davis, Ben has been working in Shimla, India as part of a project studying Rhesus macaque monkeys. We are pleased to say that he has continued writing by documenting his experiences in a blog called "The Monkey Stalker" - check it out!
